Bowral Waste Centre (BWC) has had additional earthmoving equipment engaged on site all week constructing a layer of cover material (capping) on the landfill surface. The layer of cover material that has been placed down is satisfactory to the EPA’s requirements.

Since Monday 21 June 2021 midday, we have found that we could not detect offsite odours, possibly as a result of our increased capping efforts. We will continue these capping efforts over the next few days until the landfill is in a condition that we consider suitable.

BWC is fully committed to implementing a long-term solution to ensure our neighbours are no longer impacted by any further odour issues. We have already conducted a landfill gas survey as well as conducted monitoring at the several closest residences where Methane and Hydrogen Sulphide gas levels registered at Zero. We will conduct this gas survey again next week to ensure consistency.

Once again, BWC sincerely apologises for this inconvenience. We do not wish to be a nuisance to our neighbours and are fully committed to developing and implementing a long-term solution.
